Dr. Mark R. McLaughlin, co-founder of the Trenton Youth Wrestling and Learning Center, was recently featured on WHYY NPR radio's “Good Souls” segment hosted by Cherri Gregg. This recognition celebrates individuals and groups in the Delaware Valley Region who are making meaningful, positive contributions to their communities through dedication, talent, and action. According to WHYY, “The Good Souls Project was developed to recognize an individual or group of individuals from the Delaware Valley Region making significant positive contributions to their neighborhood, community or region through their time, action, talent and dedication. The honoree(s) selected serve as a role model for compassion, generosity and service and are striving to make the world a better place.”
Dr. McLaughlin’s feature segment highlights the heart of the Trenton Youth Wrestling and Learning Center, a place where young athletes discover more than just techniques on the mat. Working closely with Director of Operations Ray Bethea, Dr. McLaughlin believes deeply in the power of wrestling as a vehicle for transformative growth. By instilling discipline, fostering teamwork, and teaching life skills, the program helps steer youth toward brighter paths.
The passion that fuels this endeavor is evident in the stories of the participants, who often face challenges that extend beyond the wrestling mat. The commitment of the Center's staff and volunteers ensures that these young individuals receive guidance and support, shaping not only their athletic potential but their personal development as well. For Dr. McLaughlin, this project represents a tangible way to make a difference, echoing his belief in the power of community-driven initiatives.
Dr. McLaughlin expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share the mission of the Trenton Youth Wrestling and Learning Center with the WHYY audience. “I am thankful to Cherri and WHYY for shining a spotlight on the purpose and potential of the program. It’s an honor to contribute to the growth of these young athletes and to work alongside committed leaders and volunteers,” he noted.
